Spring is trail season. The Full Circle Trail Race at LLELA in Lewisville and GreenFest on the Greenbelt in Aubrey are both on April 10, 2027. GreenFest’s 5K is billed as a good introduction to off-road running, and its organizer, the Greenbelt Alliance of Denton County, raises money to improve the Greenbelt and Ray Roberts Lake State Park.
Triathlons come with a 5K. The Luck of the Irish Triathlon in The Colony (March 21, 2027), the Caveman Triathlon in Flower Mound (April 4), and the Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon (July 18) and Old College Tri (August 22) in Denton each add a stand-alone 5K for runners.
Little Elm runs all winter. Its Thanksgiving trot, hosted by Towers Tap House, and the January 2 Polar 5K Run & Plunge at Little Elm Park both raise their prices as race day nears. For more distance, see our Dallas 10K races and Dallas half marathons.
Respect the heat outside winter. From late spring to early fall, run at sunrise, drink before you are thirsty and run by effort rather than pace. Stop and cool down for heavy sweating, weakness or clammy skin; call 911 for confusion or slurred speech. Our zone 2 guide covers training through it.
November 2026 is the busiest month on the current Denton, Lewisville & Flower Mound calendar, with 7 races.
