Races are spread across the Valley. This page covers the cities with races on RunSignup now, from Rio Grande City east to Port Isabel and South Padre. Expect most to be 5Ks with a mile or kids’ run, often benefiting a local school or charity.
Trail and beach are the change of pace. The Resurgence Trail Run uses singletrack at Arroyo Park in Harlingen, and the Fool’s Run starts and finishes on the beach at South Padre. On the bay side, the Laguna Vista “Du It By The Bay” duathlon on January 31, 2027 posts its details on Athlete Guild.
For a road half, look north. The Harlon Block Half is the Valley’s only half marathon on RunSignup this season. The Harbor Half in Corpus Christi is on our Corpus Christi races page, and every other half is on the Texas half marathon calendar.
Respect the heat outside winter. From late spring to early fall, run at sunrise, drink before you are thirsty and run by effort rather than pace. Stop and cool down for heavy sweating, weakness or clammy skin; call 911 for confusion or slurred speech. Our zone 2 guide covers training through it.
November 2026 is the busiest month on the current Rio Grande Valley calendar, with 19 races.
