Spring is Tyler’s race season. FRESH 15 and the Azalea Run fall two weeks apart in March, when the Azalea Trails bloom. The Azalea Run’s organizer says more than 100,000 visitors come to Tyler each spring for the flowers, so book a room early if you are traveling.
Every month has a 5K and a half. US Road Running stages a themed 5K and half marathon at 455 Shiloh Rd most months, on a short out-and-back you repeat. They suit a training half or a medal collection more than a fast time.
Trails are close. Texas Parks and Wildlife lists more than 13 miles of trails at Tyler State Park. More places are on our running in Texas guide, and the rest of the region’s races are on our East Texas calendar.
Respect the heat outside winter. From late spring to early fall, run at sunrise, drink before you are thirsty and run by effort rather than pace. Stop and cool down for heavy sweating, weakness or clammy skin; call 911 for confusion or slurred speech. Our zone 2 guide covers training through it.
November 2026 is the busiest month on the current Tyler calendar, with 4 races.
