How to choose a Texas marathon

Road or trail. 38 of the upcoming marathons are road or mixed-surface races and 19 are on trails. Trail marathons in the Hill Country run over rock and climbs, so expect a finish time well slower than your road marathon pace. Use the Road and Trail filters above to narrow the calendar.

Time of year. Texas weather does more to your finish time than almost anything else. For a goal race, pick a date between late fall and early spring, and check the historical weather for the host city on race morning. For summer build-up, see our training tips for Texas runners.

Course certification. If you're chasing a Boston qualifier, confirm on the race's own website that the course is USATF-certified before you register. We don't track certification, so check the race's official page.

Who's coming with you. 52 of these marathons also offer a half marathon and many add a 10K or 5K, so friends and family can race the same morning. Still building up to 26.2?
