Racing around Temple and Killeen

The Cen-Tex Race Series ties the area together. The Killeen Turkey Trot, the Salado Mustache Dash and the Killeen Half MaraFUN all count, and the half awards series points with age-group medals.

Pick up packets early. The Carlson Law Firm Turkey Trot has no race-day packet pickup, and the Killeen half offers pickup at the Family Recreation Center on December 17 and 18 as well as race morning.

Weekly half marathons are lapped races. Most Temple listings with a half or full marathon are US Road Running’s themed races (Gobbler, Holiday), held most weekends this fall on a lapped course with water only at the end of each lap. EMS is not on site, the organizer says. They suit a training run more than a goal race; the Texas half marathon calendar has the rest.

Respect the heat outside winter. From late spring to early fall, run at sunrise, drink before you are thirsty and run by effort rather than pace. Stop and cool down for heavy sweating, weakness or clammy skin; call 911 for confusion or slurred speech. Our zone 2 guide covers training through it.

Is there a half marathon in Killeen?

Yes. The Killeen Half MaraFUN is Saturday, December 19, 2026, on the Heritage Oaks Hike & Bike Trail, with a four-hour limit. It is the only half in the 2026 Centex Race Series. US Road Running also stages small lapped halves in Temple most weekends this fall.

Is there a turkey trot in Temple?

The 16th Carlson Law Firm Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is November 26, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. on Pepper Creek Trail. Pre-registration closes November 15 and there is no race-day packet pickup. Killeen’s Turkey Trot 5K is earlier, on November 7.

Are there trail races near Killeen?

Ricochet’s Riot at Parrie Haynes Ranch has a 50K, 25K, 10K and 5K on rocky singletrack. RunSignup lists it for March 27, 2027, but the description says March 20, so check with the organizer.
