Where the money goes

Here is what each organizer says about the cause on its RunSignup page:

  • Mission Pink (Mission): all proceeds go to the Mission Pink Fund, which pays for free digital screening mammograms for uninsured women over 40 in the Rio Grande Valley. Runners start at 8 a.m. and walkers at 8:10.
  • Walk, Run & Ride (McAllen): 100% of proceeds go to five local nonprofits that offer support, financial help and preventive care. The first 1,500 registrants get a shirt, medal and bib. Survivors pay $20.
  • Close the Loop (Houston): the ninth annual run benefits the Breast Reconstruction Awareness campaign of The Plastic Surgery Foundation. It starts at 7 a.m. near Sam Houston Park during the plastic surgeons’ annual meeting.
  • S.T.E.P.S. Forward (Laredo): supports the Stronger Together Breast Cancer Foundation’s food and care packages, transportation vouchers for treatment, and emergency help.
  • Lovebomb Run Club (Lewisville): proceeds go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for free mammograms. Strollers are welcome; pets are not.
  • Her Fight is Our Fight (Edinburg): helps a local police officer, Officer Kimberly Del Angel, with medical costs during treatment.
  • Plainview Think Pink: 100% of proceeds go to local breast cancer organizations. The 5K is part of an evening with local vendors.
  • Pretty Strong in PINK (Laredo): an inaugural women’s race.
  • The Pink Pursuit (Tyler): a color run hosted by the Tyler Junior College Student Nurses Association and Rose City Run Club.
  • Miles For Hope (Weslaco): money goes to a clinic or organization that provides breast cancer resources or services.

Walking it? Good.

Nearly every race here has a walk or welcomes walkers, and most are a 5K. If you have never done one, our run-walk guide gets you to a finish line. A pink 5K in October is also a good tune-up for a Thanksgiving turkey trot: see our turkey trot 5K plan.
